BACKGROUND FOR THE NAME

|
|
Sycamore tree or wild fig (Sycomore) is a famous tree growing for instance in the Middle East and Africa. They usually grow to less than 15 meters in height but can produce as many as 7 crops a year. Another kind of Sycamore tree is found in milder climates and relates to maples.

Wild fig has a world record in depth of roots. In Echo Caves South Africa, roots were found 120 meters below ground belonging to a wild fig.
With Sycamore Series application family we can create customized data retrieval systems utilizing the Internet and limited permission information and file distribution systems combined with end-applications that use these files.

SYCAMORE SERIES MAIN COMPONENTS
|
|
|
|
Sycamore Series program series consists of the following program components:
- Sycamore DN is a script-based Downloader/Extracted/Synchronizer-software to distribute data and commands and fetch information automatically
- Sycamore MT, script tools to maintain DES/scripts which are the basis for all DN actions
- Sycamore PA, is a portal automation software to automate web site maintenance for some daily/hourly changing elements
- Sycamore VS is a client datavisualizer software
- Sycamore SE is a setup and timesequencestarter module
- Sycamore FD, file distribution application

PICTURE: The roots (NET) bring food thru the trunk (DN) to the branches (VS)
Roots of the tree are a great number of files to be distributed or for instance raw HTML-code from which some information is needed to be saved. (1. NET) The trunk is Sycamore Series DN distribution and extracting software. (2. DN) Twigs are windows-based computers equipped with Sycamore VS client software or other software using Sycamore DN distributed data. (3. VS)

SCRIPTS
Scripts are commandbatch files, used to direct the system very spesifically. Sycamore DN-software is told via script what to load, where to load, what information to be accepted and what is bypassed and so on. Among other things there are script features to maintain the software itself. Sycamore Series script language is called DES/script. The language was developed by Laudatum Oy especially for instances of automated HTML extracting and timeseries building. DES/script maintenance is proprietary of Laudatum Oy. Channel scripts are encypted with DES/crypt method, not to be mistaken to Data Encryption Standard of 1977.

PICTURE: DES/SCRIPT is the Sycamore Series command script language
All functioning of the software family is based on these scripts. Script maintenance is centered in one place, from where with MT-program all new scripts are polled to a certain address on the Net. Client DN programs then fetch the new scripts when these programs are started on computers that have an access key installed to these scripts. Normally the scripts are not needed to be updated very often if timeseries databases are build using the same source material each time. This is possible, since very versatile methods have been include to get the information needed from any HTML or text document from week to another. This intelligent script makes possible to build databases automatically from almost any type of ascii-document found on the net.
CHANNELS
A Channel is a tailored script application on it's own name. Since it is possible to build many extremely varying types of end-user applications, for each application is needed a separate channel to which only users of this channel have access. When activated, the Sycamore DN first updates all systems files needed to be replaced by a newer one. Then the system checks if any private script mail exists to a single user or a user group. After the completion of this check the DN goes thru all installed channels to have versions control of the scripts and possible update when applicable. With the channel scripts the program knows then what files to download and process and what information to save and how to save it. The number of channels per DN application is not limited. One application can therefore fetch all files of many installed script channels. Channels are like such TV sets which can receive only certain channels. Later on new channels may be added.
CLIENTS
A client is a single Sycamore Series - using computer, that utilizes scripts of a Sycamore channel server. A client computer uses the channel scripts that it finds in a certain location in the world from where it gets it's channelscripts to get from the Net all information or files that have been told for the program to get.

GLOSSARY
Sycamore Series aims at to be as simple to use and non-engineer like as possible for the end-user. The glossary has thus only three terms that might be appropriate to explain what are ment by them in this context. These words are: scripts, channels and clients.
